AI-driven website builders make it fast and affordable to launch polished sites, but they can introduce technical SEO gaps that automated tools may miss. As Matt Hollingshead observed on Search Engine Land, “Ask an AI tool whether your site is ready, and it will often say yes. It may be right, or it may have missed something, and it sounds just as sure either way.” That uncertainty means human-led checks remain essential before launch and after major updates.

Search engines handle modern pages in two stages: crawling the raw HTML and then rendering JavaScript. As Google Search Central explains, “Googlebot queues pages for both crawling and rendering.” When AI-built sites rely on client-side scripts to populate content, any failures or delays in rendering can prevent crawlers from seeing important information. Below are practical, prioritized checks you should run to reduce risk and preserve organic visibility.
If you plan to publish or update content frequently, use an established CMS for those sections. A CMS handles sitemaps, drafts, metadata editing, and redirects without code changes. Vibe-coded content that treats every content change as a code push increases risk: mistakes can break pages or remove SEO-critical elements.
Many vibe-coded platforms build UI components that only appear after JavaScript runs. Right-click the page and choose View Page Source to verify the content exists in the initial HTML. Use Google Search Console’s URL Inspection to confirm what Googlebot sees. If key content isn’t present in the HTML, ask your builder to render it server-side or prerender critical pages.
AI can generate schema, but it can also invent or misrepresent details. Review JSON-LD and other structured data to ensure hours, addresses, Organization or Person types, and sameAs links are correct. Accurate schema supports eligibility for rich results and prevents confusing search engines with contradictory information.
Automated edits may unintentionally change canonical tags or redirects. Keep a documented list of why specific canonicals and redirects exist and store it in your project instructions for the AI. After any content change, run a crawl (Screaming Frog, Sitebulb, or equivalent) to verify canonical tags and redirects are intact.
Platform upgrades (for example, switching from client-side rendering to server-side rendering) can alter the HTML delivered to crawlers and effectively act as a site migration. Before switching stacks, test indexed pages and run a QA crawl. Have a rollback plan and monitor Search Console for sudden indexing or traffic changes.
Check hosting, database plans, and bot protection settings. Some inexpensive hosting tiers suspend projects that are inactive, and aggressive bot protection can treat Googlebot like any other bot and block it. Monitor server logs and Search Console’s Index Coverage report for 5xx errors or 403 responses that slow or halt crawling.
Custom-built forms and upload handlers are common attack vectors. Use reputable third-party form services where possible, enable Dependabot or similar alerts for package vulnerabilities, and monitor Search Console’s Security Issues report. A hacked site can quickly lose rankings and be flagged with warnings in search results.
Start with a pre-launch checklist that includes the seven items above, then repeat the checks after major updates or platform patches. Combine automated tools (crawlers, Search Console, performance monitors) with manual verification (View Page Source, server log reviews). Document your SEO-critical settings and include them in any AI project briefs so future model updates or different tools preserve your intent.
As Hollingshead warns, don’t take an AI’s readiness assessment at face value: “Ask an AI tool whether your site is ready, and it will often say yes.” Instead, treat AI outputs as a starting point and validate them with these technical checks.
