Our Website Development Process
Content and Site Structure
New Websites – we work with you to determine your website pages, content, functionality requirements, and navigational components.
Existing Websites (redesigns) – we will take your existing site content and make a copy of pages and code, product data, images, etc that might be used in the redevelopment process. Any pages with strong search engine rankings or high performing landing pages will be carefully redeveloped including 301 redirects to new URLs (if they are changed) and further enhancing on-site SEO.
Navigation – the core pages of your site will be included in the main navigation of the site (usually in the header) with sub-pages built around those pages.
Website Design
Our design process starts with identifying your vision and other websites that you like. We do this to get a feel for your taste and what works within your industry. It is important for you and your customers to like your new design.
- We meet first to discuss your overall look and feel, identify market leaders, and identify your tastes.
- After the first meeting, we take your ideas and inspirations from market leaders and create a new, custom design mock up complete with your logo, navigation, and home page content.
- Within approximately two weeks you will receive your first draft design.
- With your feedback, we will polish and make any changes needed for a final draft of your new website.
- Next we begin working on a content page layout equipped with sidebars, widgets, or other features we laid out.
Theme DevelopmentOnce the design is approved, we will build your website theme. This will be done by coding the website into the Content Management System for previewing. The theme will be tested to ensure cross-browser compatibility (which means it will work in all major web browsers including IE, Firefox, Safari, and Chrome).
Content Management System Configuration
We work pretty exclusively in WordPress CMS for most of our websites and Interspire Shopping Cart for our e-commerce projects. They are both friendly end-user platforms, but still powerful and flexible enough for our development team to have fully custom looks, feels, functionality, and stability. We take your feature requests and functionality requirements and add in the things you need to make your website work, and provide you with an administration area for the new features.
Website CMS Training
Once the website development is completed, we train each of our clients on how to use their new website. We go through the process of showing you how to add/edit/delete pages and blog posts, add images to a gallery (if you have one) and any other features you may have. If you have an e-commerce package, we show you ho to manage customers, products, and orders. Our goal is to empower you to take as much (or as little) control of your website as you want.
Content Creation/Migration
If you are launching a brand new website, most of the content going in will have to be developed by you or your team. It is important we get YOUR message out there, so we will work with you on delivering the best practices and give you guidance on how to go about creating this content.
If you are re-developing your website, this is a great opportunity to re-define your persona, or just update what is there. For pages performing well, it might be best to leave them intact. Either way, we prefer to look through your website analytics (if there are any) and use them to make decisions about what content is working and what is not.
For e-commerce websites, we will need product data and images in a specific format. We will give you a template to follow to create the data if you don’t have it already, or we can do a “crawl” of your site and extract the data for you. We then enhance this data to be SEO ready with appropriate titles, meta info, and page content. Once the data is created, it is loaded into the new website.
Launch and Support
In order to get ready to launch, we will create your sitemap for Google, install Google Analytics for website statistics, set up Google Webmaster Tools, check all pages and links, and do a final run through of all features and requirements. We will also finalize contact forms and install and integrate Google Apps for email and calendar support (if you don’t have it already).
For 60 days after the website launch, we will provide real-time support for technical issues, training, and questions for free. We want you to be completely comfortable working with your website, and we will continue to meet your needs as they arise. After the 60 day period, we will offer services for $70.00 per hour billed in 15 minute increments.
Maintenance and Hosting
Your new website will be hosted on SEOteric’s servers under a managed hosting account. We provide software updates and upgrades, up-time monitoring, nightly file system and database backups (on our server and on a hard disk for dual backup support), and enough resources for your website to perform well even under heavy traffic loads. Our databases are optimized for maximum performance, and you will see a difference with out website performance. Hosting accounts start around $35.00 per month and go up from there based on system requirements.
We maintain everything that supports your website. This isn’t a “shared” hosting account like you can purchase for $5 per month, but rather a fully managed solution.
